The Foundation’s Mission

The mission of Southeastern New England Educational and Charitable Foundation (SNEC) is:

  1. To improve access to higher education for students with an interest in historic preservation or environmental conservation.
  2. To work with high schools and post-secondary institutions to identify students and programs that will advance the Foundation’s mission.
  3. To offer grants and scholarships to qualified students identified by academic institutions and meeting the Foundation’s criteria.
  4. To assist post-secondary institutions with programs designed to support individuals in their pursuit of higher education in Rhode Island and New London County, Connecticut.

The Foundation’s Philosophy

The Southeastern New England Educational and Charitable (SNEC) Foundation makes grants only to higher education facilities in Rhode Island and New London County, Connecticut and to students residing in those areas who are striving to pursue a degree at a university or college. Although the Foundation considers all applicants that meet the geographical requirements, special emphasis is placed on schools and students who dedicate themselves to the disciplines of Historical Restoration and Environmental Conservation.

The SNEC Foundation is focused on developing partnerships both with higher education facilities and with the students interested in the Foundation’s target areas. In addition to our direct support of higher education facilities, the Foundation uses grants to encourage partnerships between schools and Historical Societies but always with the primary focus being on the student. The Foundation encourages organizations with similar goals to partner in our supported projects.

The Foundation will consider organizations that support higher education and students who meet our geographical and major-focus criteria.

The Foundation’s Operations

The SNEC Foundation is a Private Operating Foundation. As such, the Foundation’s grants must be used directly in the active conduct of its mission activities. The Foundation is focused on developing active partnerships, in our geographic focus area, both with higher education facilities and with students interested in historic preservation or environmental conservation. Any project that the Foundation supports at higher education facilities must have the student as its primary focus.

The Foundation does not give to major capital projects. We do not fund feasibility studies, make multi-year commitments without verifiable criteria, nor provide any funding for political endeavors.

Southeastern New England Educational and Charitable Foundation were organized as a 501(c)(3) in 2016 in the state of Rhode Island.
